It’s wrong to think that all travelers motivated by sexual exploitation of children and youth are middle-aged man or elderly people, when in fact young tourists have been known to travel for the same purpose.

Travelers motivated by sexual exploitation of children and youth do not have a specific profile. They can be domestic travellers or international tourists, and this practice commonly involves the use of hotels, transport and all services related to tourism, which facilitates the direct contact with children, and aloud the criminals to interact with the population and local environment.

This crime takes place in different locations, from brothels in the suburbs and rural areas, to 5 stars hotel or beaches located in urban areas. The tourism with sexual motivation comes from all social levels and marital status: they can be either single or married, men or women; millionaire tourists or backpackers; and can come from long distances or nearby.

Although a few do travel with this specific purpose, the majority are occasional offenders, which normally do not prefer having sex with children, but take advantage of the situation when they notice that a few of them are available, deciding to experiment the opportunity to sexually interact with children or youth.
