The Project
Cartilha de orientação contendo o código de conduta para o turista.Sustainable Tourism & Childhood: Sensibilization in Brazil and Abroad for Child and Youth Sexual Exploitation (CSE),aims to be a new and helpful strengthening tool for the already running actions regarding tourism industry and its commitment with the Protection of Children and Youth from Sexual Exploitation. The Project is supported by the Ministry of Tourism.
According to EMBRATUR statistics (Plano Aquarela Guidelines), the Northeast of Brazil is the region where the number of foreign tourists raises the most. This growth brings development for the region‘s economy, creating jobs and incomes to the population; however it can turn as well in a threat to the destination sustainability in its most important issue: the Protection of children from CSE.
Both government and NGO’s have been wondering about CSE due social irresponsibility of some tourism industry actors.
This subject has been included in national and international debates on tourism, including on UN. Pacts, Conventions and International Agreements specifically held in this purpose, as UN Convention on the Rights of Children, Brazilian Children and Adolescents Protection Act (ECA – Estatuto da Criança e do Adolescente), Seminars and Conferences promoted by NGO`s as such as ECPAT, and others.
To address, understand and discuss the problem with other stakeholders (including consumers) in Brazil’s Northeast and with international buyers, are a part of our strategy to build-up and to enforce new paradigms and implement inclusive attitudes on addressing this phenomena.
